The 2020 French Food Festival has been canceled due to the COVID pandemic.
Event organizers announced the decision this afternoon, saying that they delayed the decision as long as possible to "hold out hope" that the event could be held.
But due to COVID restrictions, hosting the event will not be possible.
"Due to the restrictions set forth by the governor and his emergency declaration as pertaining to COVID-19 strictly preventing fairs and festivals, we have made the hardest decision as an organization we have ever had to make," a statement reads from The Board of Directors and Staff of the Bayou Civic Club. "French Food Festival 2020 will be canceled this year."
Event organizers stress that the event IS NOT permanently canceled, but will just shut down for 2020.
The French Food Festival has been in existence for 47 years - one of the most anticipated events on the local calendar.
Featuring music, carnival rides, entertainment and, of course, the food, the event attracts thousands of people to Larose each fall.
"This is NOT the end of French Food," the statement reads. "This is just a 'see you next year.'"
