Lafourche Parish, Louisiana… Local public health units are among the groups uniting on MyParishCAN.com. The new regional website connects local action groups that are involved with updating the State Health Assessment (SHA) in 2021 and the ongoing State Health Improvement Plan (SHIP).
“Health departments across the country have created similar interactive websites recently,” says Jeanne Solis, Community Health Improvement Specialist for the OPH Region 3. Like those models, MyParishCAN.com aligns local group plans for collective impact in community health improvement. “Thanks to technical support from Nicholls student interns, MyParishCAN.com is ready to spotlight local health equity issues and multi-sector groups that are providing solutions,” Solis adds.
MyParishCAN.com features information about coalitions and task force groups in the bayou and river parish region that address health equity issues. Group descriptions, event calendars, action strategies, and contacts are being added to the local Collective Action Network (CAN) section. A resource page provides links to Louisiana’s health factor data.
Louisiana residents will be invited to update the five-year SHA during 2021, followed by action updates for the ongoing SHIP cycle through 2025. The process will aim at aligning with economic and community development strategies for better local health and wellness outcomes.
Louisiana currently ranks #49 by AmericasHealthRankings.org for overall health status. MyParishCAN.com is one piece of the process for creating a better local culture of health equity and higher state health status rankings.
