Recently, a local South Lafourche Relay for Life Team, the Dukes of Earl, was honored in a virtual Zoom Banquet given by the American Cancer Society of Louisiana and was named in the Top 10 Fundraising Teams in the State of Louisiana for the year 2020.

The Dukes of Earl South Lafourche Relay for Life Team began in 2004 as a small family team that wanted to contribute to the fight after a beloved family member was diagnosed with cancer.  As the years went on, the team’s most popular fundraiser was a Cake Bingo and Gumbo Luncheon that will be entering its 17th year this year.  This event is usually held in the Spring but planning has taken a back seat to Covid for now.  Over the years, as family members “retired,” the founding members of the team picked up more friends and acquaintances to be members and to join in the cause.  Today, the team is over 25 members strong and shows no signs of stopping! In 17 years, they have raised more than $190,000 to continue cancer research and to assist local cancer patients, local programs, and more.   This team shares a close bond that will continue to lead them to successful fundraising for many years to come.  Their motto is “Fighting together, For a cure, With love.”  Team Captain is Connie Curole and Co Captain is Phyllis Sauder. Team members include Jasmine Sauder, Jill and Christy Chabert, Marissa Curole, Alexis Curole, Angel and Tina Stevens, Christy Rogers, Spergan “T Sperg” Broussard, Pam Guidry, Chloe Guidry, Zoey Guidry, Pam and Michael “Scat” Pitre, Willie and Mona Curole, Earl and Holly Hebert, Crystal W. Green and Mary Reynaud.  The team would like to thank its donors and the local community for the continued, tremendous support given every year.
