Before we dive into this week's Back in the Day, let's give an update on our sponsor for this popular weekly series.

Golden Motors is back open for business following Hurricane Ida.

Owner Maurice Guidry told The Gazette today that the dealership is re-open after the storm and that there are "plenty of vehicles" on the lot for those who are in the market for a new vehicle.

Guidry said he wanted to thank the community for their continued support and added that Golden Motors hopes to be part of a big rebuild in Lafourche.

on Saturday, Kiwanis will be handing out 500 meals from the dealership, and Golden Motors has plans to hold a clothing drive for those who are in need following Ida.

Now, let's enjoy this week's Back in The Day.

We have every, single paper copy of our newspaper that's ever printed!

So we have decided to go into the archives weekly and give you all a blast from the past.

We will call it "Back in the Day" and we think it will be a cool look at the news from our past.

You will see familiar local names, familiar local businesses (some that may have closed down) and a look into our bayou's history.

So join us today as we go back 35+ years to the day with the September 4, 1985 issue of The Lafourche Gazette.
