COVID-19 cases in both Louisiana and Lafourche Parish continued to rise, per Thursday's update.
State cases rose from 1,795 to 2,305 in the new update. Lafourche cases jumped from 18 to 28 in the update, which spanned the past 24 hours.
Louisiana continues to ramp up its testing efforts, joining the rest of the United States. Yesterday, more than 74,000 tests were processed around the United States. In Louisiana alone, the number of tests processed yesterday was 6,578.
That number is easily a state record throughout this process. The previous daily high for processed tests was yesterday with 2,848.
Statewide deaths rose from 65 to 83 in the new update. In Lafourche, we remain with one death.
Parish President Archie Chaisson has said throughout that he was expecting a rise in positive tests in the coming days as more people got their pending tests back and more total people were tested in our area.
COVID-19 cases now encompass 53 of Louisiana's 64 parishes and 676 people are hospitalized around the state and 239 of those are on ventilators, per updated state numbers.
