Lafourche Parish has suffered its first COVID-19 death.
The Department of Health updated its COVID-19 numbers today at noon. Lafourche Parish has 18 total cases in the new update - two more than in the last update 24 hours ago. The Department of Health also announced Lafourche's first death from COVID-19.
No details have been provided on the patient.
Louisiana cases rose from 1,388 yesterday to 1,795 today. Louisiana continues to ramp up its testing. Yesterday, the state processed 2,848 tests - the second-straight day a record was set for processed tests.
The virus is now in 48 of 64 Louisiana parishes.
The greatest cluster of cases remains in the Greater New Orleans area where there are 1,186 total cases and 44 deaths between Orleans and Jefferson parishes.
Lafourche Parish President Archie Chaisson confirmed to The Gazette that a Lafourche patient had passed away. He said he, too, does not have information he can publicly share at this time.
