The Town of Grand Isle announced today that beaches will be closed at 5 p.m. today in an effort to follow Governor John Bel Edwards' Shelter in Place Declaration.
The town says that starting tomorrow, Town Hall will be opened from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., but any services needed will need to be scheduled with that department ahead of time.
Call 985-787-3196 for an appointment.
For police services, call 985-787-2104.
The town also said that all of the following orders will be in effect beginning March 23, 2020 until April 12, 2020 - unless terminated sooner.
-No fishing on fishing piers.
-No short-term rentals
-No playgrounds/parks will be open
-No golf cart/side-by-sides allowed on streets, La. Highway 1 or the beach
-The beach will be closed
The Town is requesting the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to do their own update for Elmer's Island and asking the Lieutenant Governor to issue an update for the State Park.
The Town said these decisions are hard, but have to be done.
The hope is that by doing this now, the island will "get its summer back."
