Louisiana's COVID situation continues to get better after the brutal summer of the Delta Wave. 

State hospitalizations have continued to tumble this week and now sit below 1,400 – down from more than 3,000 at the peak of this wave. 

Cases per day are also dropping, as well, contributing to the decreases.

Total COVID cases: 725,637

New deaths: 52

Total deaths: 13,418

Total Lafourche COVID cases: 17,218 (211 more than Monday when we last did a story)

Total Lafourche deaths: 269 (2 more than Monday when we last did a story)

Lafourche's 7-day positivity: 12.4% (updated Wednesday; up from 11.6% last week)

Louisiana COVID hospitalizations: 1,367 (264 fewer than Monday when we last updated)

Louisiana COVID patients on ventilators: 251(46 less than Monday when we last reported)

Region 3 COVID hospitalizations: 69 (same as Monday when we last reported)

Region 3 COVID patients on ventilators: 12 (1 fewer than Monday when we last reported)

VACCINATION NUMBERS:

In cases from Sept. 2-8, unvaccinated COVID patients accounted for:

-88% of COVID cases

-85% of COVID deaths

Unvaccinated COVID patients make up 88% of our current COVID hospitalizations, as of September 16
