Louisiana COVID hospitalizations are down slightly today in a Wednesday update from the Department of Health, but state percent positivity is up slightly from where it's been in recent days.
The state reports 1,625 COVID hospitalizations today, up from 1,646 COVID hospitalizations reported yesterday.
Our COVID hospitalizations rose rapidly from October to January quadrupling from 520+ COVID hospitalizations in early-October to 2,000+ hospitalizations in January.Â
But since the start of the new year, our COVID hospitalizations have started to plateau and taper off to their current position thanks to several days of reported decreases.
In Region 3, COVID hospitalizations dropped from 80 to 77 in the past day, while ventilator use stayed flat at 7.Â
Hospitalizations are trending in the right direction due to percent positive rates, which have been generally on the way down in recent weeks, but today have crept back up slightly - a trend worth tracking.
The state reports 3,868 new COVID cases today, bringing the state's confirmed COVID total cases to 343,583 since the start of the pandemic last March.Â
Louisiana's % positive rate today is 9.3% with 3,868 new COVID cases and 41,475 processed tests.Â
A 9.3% positive rate is still far below the 10+% and even 12+% rates we saw at the worst of the third wave.
But it is also higher than the steady 6-8% rates we've seen for now the past 7-10 days, so we will track positivity in the coming days to see if this is a trend.
The state reports 67 new COVID deaths, bringing the confirmed death rate from the virus to 8,152.
For Lafourche, there are 37 new confirmed COVID cases today, bringing parish confirmed COVID totals to 6,368 since the start of the pandemic.Â
The parish's % positive rate today is 6.0%.
