Louisiana's COVID situation continues to get better as the state fights both the Delta Wave and also Hurricane Ida.

Louisiana updated its virus numbers today, which show steep declines in hospitalizations. The state reports just above 2,000 COVID hospitalizations today, which is hundreds fewer than the last update. Louisiana was ravished by the Delta Wave and our numbers still are higher than medical experts would like them to be. But in recent weeks, the wave plateaued, then started to taper off.

New cases: 5,532 (since Friday)

Total COVID cases: 702,432

New deaths: 72 (since Friday)

Total deaths: 12,779

Total Lafourche COVID cases: 16,673 (70 more than Thursday)

Total Lafourche deaths: 261 (3 more than Thursday)

Lafourche's 7-day positivity: 17.2% (updated Wednesday; down from 18.0% last week)

Louisiana COVID hospitalizations: 2,003 (399 fewer than Thursday)

Louisiana COVID patients on ventilators: 398 (68 more than Thursday)

Region 3 COVID hospitalizations: 87 (24 fewer than Thursday)

Region 3 COVID patients on ventilators: 24 (4 fewer than Thursday)


In cases from August 12-18, unvaccinated COVID patients accounted for:

-90% of COVID cases

-81% of COVID deaths

Unvaccinated COVID patients make up 90% of our current COVID hospitalizations, as of September 6
