The Louisiana Supreme Court ruled today that there will be no new jury trials in Louisiana – civil nor criminal – until March 1, 2021, due to the COVID pandemic.Â
The decision was announced today in a 3 page order penned by local judge and new State Supreme Court Chief Justice John Weimer.Â
The order says that new jury trials can not begin until at least March 1, but that trials already in session will be able to be completed.
Judge Steve Miller with the 17th Judicial District said that a jury trial was slated to begin tomorrow, but will now be postponed to comply with the order.Â
In-person court proceedings will continue as scheduled, per the order.
