The Louisiana Department of Health's COVID numbers on Thursday have continued the state's progress in our pandemic fight.
The state added 442 new COVID cases today, bringing the state's confirmed COVID case count to 382,031 since the start of the pandemic last year.
Louisiana's % positive today is 2.1% with the 442 new cases and 20,350 processed tests.
At 2.1% positivity, the state is holding strong in its pandemic fight. Our % positive was above 10% for several weeks at the peak of the third wave this past winter. But now, we are routinely below 3%, which is well below the 5% rates that the CDC and medical experts say an area needs for enhanced re-opening efforts.
The state reports 15 new COVID deaths today, bringing Louisiana's confirmed COVID death total to 9,343 since the start of the pandemic.
For Lafourche, there is 1 new confirmed COVID case today, bringing the parish's total confirmed COVID cases to 7,161 since the start of the pandemic.
Our hospitalizations continue to hold strong, as well.
The state reports 301 COVID patients are hospitalized today, the same number as yesterday.
Our hospitalizations have tumbled rapidly in recent weeks from near-2,100 in early 2021 to their current levels now.
There are 44 COVID patients on ventilators today. That number was 46 yesterday. At 44 patients on ventilators, we are at a new low-point in the pandemic.
In Region 3, there are 7 COVID patients hospitalized, down from 8 yesterday. The region has 1 COVID patient on a ventilator.
