The Louisiana Department of Health's Tuesday coronavirus update comes with a slight rise in state COVID hospitalizations, but a positivity rate near 2%.
The state reports 344 COVID hospitalizations today, up from 337 reported yesterday. Our COVID hospitalizations are slowly trending upward in recent weeks after dipping below 300 earlier this month. The rise is not exponential, and is not a cause for alarm, as all 9 hospital systems in the state had adequate bedding currently available.
As a whole, our COVID situation is up from 2-3 weeks ago, but down from 2-3 months ago as we steady ourselves from the winter wave, which surged hospitals near 2,100.
There are 41 COVID patients on ventilators in Louisiana, up from 39 yesterday.
In Region 3, there are 10 COVID hospitalizations, up from 8 yesterday. There is 1 COVID patient on a ventilator in the region. We've had 1 COVID patient on a ventilator in Region 3 since March 26.
The brightest news of today's update is with our state's positivity.
Louisiana reports 359 new COVID patients today, bringing the state's confirmed COVID case count to 386,105 since the start of the pandemic last year.
Our positivity today was 2.1% with 359 new COVID cases and 16,365 processed tests. That positivity rate is very good – well below the 5% rate medical experts say mark an area that is making progress.
Louisiana reports 13 new COVID deaths today, bringing the state's confirmed death total to 9,410.
In Lafourche Parish, there are 6 new confirmed COVID cases today, bringing parish COVID totals to 7,195 since the start of the pandemic 13 months ago.
