Eight local boys' basketball teams have qualified for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association State Playoffs.
The LHSAA released the state's postseason brackets today - completing a regular season unlike any other in the state due to the COVID pandemic.
Postseason games will start to be played in the coming days, leading up to the crowning of state champions in early March.
Of our local contingent, most are on the road to start their journey.
In Class 5A, Thibodaux is the No. 31 seed in the 32-team bracket. The Tigers will be traveling to face No. 2 West Monroe in the opening round.
In Class 4A, our lone non-select opening-round hosting team will be the Ellender Patriots. They earned the No. 6 seed in Class 4A and will be taking on No. 27 Franklin Parish.
Class 4A is full of local teams. Also earning a spot in the bracket are Assumption, South Lafourche and South Terrebonne.
The Mustangs are seeded No. 21 and will face No. 12 Landry-Walker; the Tarpons are No. 24 and will face No. 9 Westgate and the Gators are No. 28 and will face No. 5 Huntington.
All three will be on the road to open the postseason.
In Class C, Grand Isle earned the No. 12 seed, and will be traveling to face No. 5 Gibsland-Coleman in the opening round.
In the select-school brackets, we have two local teams contending for a state title.
In Division II, E.D. White earned the No. 4 seed after a strong regular season. The Cardinals will open with No. 13 Teurlings Catholic in the opening round.
In Division III, Houma Christian is the No. 13 seed, and will face No. 4 Holy Savior Menard.
