The Bayou Region Athletic Hall of Fame has announced its 2022 class for the 5th annual Terrebonne General Community Sports Institute's Bayou Region Athletic Hall of Fame.

The inductees are comprised of local professional athletes/coaches who have excelled in their respective careers – earning one of the highest distinctions a local athlete can earn.

The honorees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on June 23 at Cypress Columns in Gray.

This year's group includes football standouts Bob Brunet, Art Cantrelle, Troy Johnson, Thomas 'Skee' Roussel, coaching legend Kenneth Dixon and NHRA racing pioneer Leonard Hughes.

The honorees will earn a spot on the Bayou Region Athletic Wall of Fame located inside the Community Sports Institute of Terrebonne General Health System.

Inductees represent athletes/coaches who have had an impact in Lafourche, Terrebonne and Assumption parishes.

Brunet is a native of Larose who was a 9-year NFL veteran for the Washington Redskins. Cantrelle was a Larose native and graduate of Biloxi High School who became an All-SEC player at LSU and a prominent CFL player.

Dixon was a 29-year head coach at Ellender who won 5 State Championships, while finishing as a State Runner-Up twice.

Hughes is a Houma native and Terrebonne High graduate who is the 'Hughes' half of the Candies and Hughes NHRA Racing Team which won multiple National NHRD Championships.

Johnson is a Chauvin native and South Terrebonne graduate who had a 4-year career in the NFL.

Roussel is a Thibodaux native and Thibodaux High School graduate who played 5 years in the NFL with the Redskins, Saints and Eagles.

Proceeds from the banquet will benefit The Foundation for Terrebonne General Health System and will help fund numerous community health and wellness programs in our community.
