The South Lafourche girls' basketball team split a pair of games yesterday at the St. Thomas More Tournament in Lafayette.
The Lady Tarpons beat Sam Houston 51-18, then lost to Lafayette High School 66-32 to close out their day.
The results push South Lafourche to 1-2 on the young season.
Against Sam Houston, balanced scoring powered the Lady Tarpons.
Ava Pitre led all scorers with 15 points, but following closely were Abbi Collins (9 points), Ellie Lorraine (9 points) and Madelyn Bourgeois (8 points).
South Lafourche jumped ahead early, then coasted late to the comfortable win, their first of the season.
But in the second game of the day, things weren't as easy.
The Lady Tarpons struggled offensively against Lafayette, unable to penetrate the Lady Lions' defense for most of the game.
South Lafourche made 9 field goals in the game and 7 were 3-pointers. They were unable to establish an inside presence, which allowed Lafayette to control the game en route to the comfortable win.
Collins led the team with 14 points in defeat, while Lorraine added 7. Pitre pitched in 6.
